| Why are we never satisfied with women's bodies? I'm not speaking from a sexual standpoint, but more from the view that it seems women's bodies are always criticized. If she's thin, then she must be anorexic, even though there are lots of naturally small, thin women. If she's bigger than a size 8, she must be fat even though people are quick to label a thin person as having an eating disorder. Even Marilyn Monroe, a famous sex icon, is dubbed as "fat", even though her weight fluctuated just like every other normal woman. But apparently Liz Hurley thinks she is fat. I know I should care less about what other people think or say, but it is SO disparaging to get all of these messages! It seems that no matter what, a woman's natural body shape is never good enough. What's worse is how our society finds fault with everything, yet happens to ignore the fact that we are experiencing an obesity epidemic. Whatever happened to just being concerned about physical fitness, maintaining a healthy waistline, and being active? I feel like even if a woman is the perfect hourglass figure, someone is going to find fault and insist that her hips are too wide. If a woman has a boyish body, someone is going to say she looks like a man. If her breasts are small, she's told she needs to get work done. If her breasts are larger, she's told she's had work done. Or a woman's legs might not be long enough, she might have "cankles", or she has no hips. At times, I get so disillusioned by these comments, I find myself chiming in! And it's not right at all. I guess I look at myself and wish I could be different because society tells me I should be different. I know I should ignore the messages and work on being healthy and self-accepting, but it's so hard. |
| I think most men and most women are accepting of a woman with a healthy body who takes care of it. People that are very critical of women's bodies are usually not very right in the head, so why worry about them? I've always thought that stupid remark Liz Hurley made was uninformed, to say the least. I think it was "Marilyn Monroe might have looked good as a size 16, but if I were a size 16, I'd kill myself!" At the time she was a dumb fashion model, not sure what she's up to now. Marilyn Monroe would be considered to be a size 4-6 in "today's" sizes, she was 5'6" and on average weighed 125 lbs. Sizes change. Anyone with eyes can see that the woman was voluptuous and not fat. Don't pay attention to the media and magazines for young women. If you are going to pay attention to what anyone says at all, let it be your doctor. |

Why do they not advise the public about what some ambitious and greedy people with the media might be doing to pay their dues to the System that alots their privileges and the limelight? |
