| Once i upload videos to my computer they are squished? I am recording in 16:9 format on my camcorder. Once I transfer the videos to the computer, windows media player makes them look all tall and distorted. I thought maybe it would go away so i edited it in windows movie maker and then uploaded it to youtube, and it uploaded the same way, tall and squished. What is wrong? If i record in 4:3, then it isnt squished and looks normal but recording like that sucks. |
| They are anamorphic encoded video and you don't have the proper CODEC loaded to handle them properly. Within Windows Movie Maker, there is an option to edit the video as 16:9 aspect ratio. Make sure that is selected. If the videos continue to not be detected as anamorphic, then install ffdshow tryouts and see if WMM then behaves properly. ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/ |
| Why are my 16:9 videocam videos all playing in 4:3 format on my computer? My digital videocam (Panasonic SDR H200) records and plays back in 16:9 format on its own screen and when directly hooked up to a TV, but when I copy the file to my computer to edit and burn to DVD, all video players "squish" the video into 4:3 format. | Check the setting on the program burning it. I would recommend burning with ConvertXtoDvd. Just one click. Just configure the settings. Try Vlc media player for computer viewing video files. its FREE google it . |

| Try using a better quality format (export it to an avi) and record it with a camera that doesn't have that much difference in resolution from Youtube (320x200 I Believe). If you have a newer camera record in a non-widescreen mode. See you manual for more. |

| Sounds like when you imported the video into the computer it changed your aspect ratio. You can check the aspect ratio by right clicking while playing in Windows Media Player. I have a dual mode sony handycam that shoots widescreen as well as standard 4:3 and I use StashSpace.Com's video editor to import video. It maintains the aspect ratio and has an easy capture option.
